Upcoming Zimbabwean artist Tapiwa Ziwewe populary known as Taps95 is ready to introduce himself on his own terms with the announcement of his debut EP, Baba Ndini.
The 5-track project, rooted in Dancehall and Afro Pop , is led by the title track “Baba Ndini” which translates to “I am the Father.” For Taps95, the song is a declaration. It is him claiming his seat in Zimbabwe’s music fraternity.
In an exclusive interview with our Zimbabwean based HitzAlert correspond in Harare recently, Taps95 had this to reveal.
“This project is me saying I’m here, Baba Ndini is not about ego. It is about responsibility, leadership, and telling my story on my own terms. I am still upcoming, but I’m not small. This EP is how I introduce myself to the industry, “he added.
Across the 5 songs Taps95 blends dancehall energy with afro pop melodies a combination designed for both clubs and radio. His sound stays rooted in Zimbabwean storytelling while aiming for commercial appeal.
The EP also brings in fresh collaboration, rising female songbird Sunoh features on one of the tracks, adding melody and depth to the project.
“Working with Sunoh also showed that we can build together,” Taps95 explained.
With “Baba Ndini” , Taps95 positions himself as part of a new generation of independent artists building from the ground up. His focus is on music that is honest, ambitious, and reflective of Zimbabwean experience.
The Harare-based artist specializes in Dancehall and Afro Pop, and says this EP marks the beginning of a new chapter where he takes full ownership of his craft and his narrative.
